The Pirates have now lost 11 in a row. The ML record for consecutive losses is 21 by the Baltimore Orioles in 1988. The Pirates would need to lose 10 more to reach that. They play three against the White Sox (who are ridiculously on fire), three against the Tigers (who are even more ridiculously on fire) and four against the Mets (who are the most ridiculosly on fire). If the Bucs tank those games like they did against the Twins, Royals(!) and Dodgers, they will tie for the record.

Bucco Blogger says: go for it! If you're gonna go down, go down in flames. Like the great philosopher Jake Taylor said to Ricky "Wild Thing" Vaughn in "Major League," after he was asked if his four wild pitches in one inning was a bad thing: "Not if you do it colorfully."

Does that make sense? Probably not. But hey, neither does this team this season.

I would say the chances of them losing 21 in a row is actually quiet good, considering their next 3 opponents. When it rains, it pours!

The guy who annoys me most on this team is Oliver Perez. With the way Zach Duke has looked this year, this causes me to come to one conclusion.

Fire the pitching coach. Who is the Pirates' pitching coach, by the way? And, did he, in fact, coach Ricky Vaughn in the California Penal Leagues?

/I do not think that they will come close to this record, though... expect a win today...

Jim Colburn is the pitching coach. He came in this year and his first order of business was to tinker with Zach Duke's mechanics. His 8-1 with a 1.81 ERA in his rookie season mechanics. In an interview with a local radio station earlier this year, Colburn became upset with the interviewer because he couldn't believe Colburn's criticism of Duke for keeping the ball "too low."

Rejoice!! Perez has been banished to the bullpen.

Love your entries, RJ. I mentioned this entry on the podcast today, but I apologize for calling you "RJ Wagner." I think this is a Freudian Robert Wagner reference (who I absolutely adore because he was involved with Natalie Wood, perhaps one of the most beautiful women who ever lived, but I digress).

Thanks for the mention...didn't get to listen to the podast yet but I can't wait to hear it. Always boosts the ol' ego. I've been listening since April with the Danny Bonaduce intro. As far as the Wagner thing, don't worry happens all the time. Nobody at my work knows my name and I've been there two years already. On my schedule they have my name Werner. On the softball team, they wrote my name in the scorebook as Wagner for our first game. I don't even correct them anymore. Keep up the good work with the show and the site and I'm glad I have a forum to rant and vent about my team. I'll tell you this: If the Pirates ever become good again, I think my writing would suffer, because I believe a pissed off writer is a good writer.
